Is there a governor on the '94 WRX? Top speed seems to be 180, but 5th gear is still pulling hard right up to that speed. That's at around 5500 rpm. I realize it's not a top speed kind of car, but it just seems odd.

Yup - there's a governor on there, I've got a second piggyback tune on my STi with no governor, and it'll do well over 200...
180 is kinda anti-climactic in the STi, but feels fast in the WRX

Yup all JDM cars are limited to 180km/h from factory as far as I know. My tune has it changed to 280km/h. Never even tried going that fast though lol.

Yes all JDMs are restricted to 180 km/h, some cars have "wires" you can cut (such as Skyline) that no one knows the implications of.
Most people just get chipped ECU's or aftermarket to go more than 180 km/h. Personally I never approach those speeds but I know some people have access to a track and regularly test their top speeds ![]()

leave it alone chipped ecus are pants a generic chip no 2 cars are the same you need a custom remap . on a dyno!! i can get the part to delimit it but it will go bang on high end speeds unless recalibrated .

Mine has the STi 240kms speedo and my PIVOT speed meter also removes the 180km top speed. And trust me it does remove that limit
