If your planning on buying a RHD car in Ontario you may want to reconsider. I've called about a dozen different insurance providers and scoured the internet. The only insurance provder I have found that will insure a RHD vehicle in Ontario is RBC. State Farm, ING and the Cooperators won't take on new RHD clientelle any more.
I just transfered both of my cars and house to RBC so I can confirm they will take on new customers. I am seriously starting to reconsider buying another JDM in the spring. There are over a hundred insurance providers in Ontario. I figure it's only a matter of time before RBC stops insuring RHD and then what? I hate Ontario. |

I'm with ing and had no issues insuring mine. Why don't you work with a broker?

It's illegal for any insurance company to deny you insurance completely. They don't have to provide you full coverage, but have to give PLPD.
Smaller companies will never say no to business either, look at some of them. |

Guys call any Ontario broker and ask them if they'll insure a RHD. The answer is always no.

Just spoke with my RBC rep. She said that the company that underwrites insurance for RBC is still happy to approve RHD vehicles. She told me that she came from private brokerages and this is the first company she has ever worked for that will ensure an RHD in Ontario. Living in a province where the insurance companies make the laws sucks.

Haha come on man you're going to start a panic. I had a very different experience the few places I called would insure it depends on what agent you get it is hit and miss. I have a broker now so different story but it is possible to get insurance if you have patience.

When you guys say "I went through a broker", how do you find these brokers in Ontario? Does broker mean "some small company office" or does it mean "an individual"?
I just thought I'd ask so other Ontarians will have more info to go in. Also feel free to post contact info for these good brokers and add them to the JDMVip Vendor list |
