    Default Observations about JUMVEA

I don't think many people (besides Exporters) know that JUMVEA and it's membership mean very little to us and also do not provide you any more assurance or protection than a non-JUMVEA member.

Any Exporter can join them, just visit their website, as far as I can tell anyone who applies and submits the fee is an instant JUMVEA member.

If you want more proof, some of the worst names in the business happen to be members, and it should be no wonder that you need to provide some false sense of assurance if you're not an honest Exporter.

I'm not saying all JUMVEA members are dishonest, just that it is basically irrelevant that an Exporter is a member of JUMVEA.

I asked JUMVEA how it benefits and/or protects the buyer and received absolutely no response.

I just thought I'd post this because I've seen lots of comments all over the web that "Exporter ABC is a JUMVEA member"

Membership has it's perks but not much for non-Japanese speaking companies. Very little of the benefits come in English and the cost is high (about $2000 to start).

They don't seem to respond to English e-mails anymore.

Frankly I think JUMVEA is a joke. Anyone with the cash can become a member. Its a bit of a racket really, and new members are sucked in and usually leave after a year.

My company has never joined because their is little benefit. As the application is simple, and there is, at least to my knowledge, no check up on companies joining, what good is that to the consumer. They are told that JUMVEA members are the best. But, like jdmvip said, a lot of these companies have the worst reputations in the business.

My advise to any new exporter would be; save your money on this membership and spend it on advertising.

More to add on this. JUMVEA is run by a Mr. Sato, who is the owner of Yamagin in Tokyo. I got a good client from Yamagin thanks to the fact that they didn't wash any of the vehicles they put into my client's container, and it was stopped for inspection. The client had to pay huge money to get the vehicles cleaned, and had to pay a hefty fine. He tried to make a claim to the company, Yamagin, but the owner refused to compensate the client, even though it was 100% their fault.
This client contacted me and asked me to call JUMVEA about this member. I spoke with the person who answered the JUMVEA phone, an old Japanese guy with poor English. He said JUMVEA doesn't accept claims made against its members.
So, even the President of JUMVEA, who is also the owner of the defaulting company, Yamagin wouldn't take responsiblity for shipping dirty vehicles resulting in my new client having to pay thousands in fines and cleaning fees. So, that should tell you something about JUMVEA.

Interesting Steve, I didn't know that about JUMVEA and that they were owned by another Exporter.

I don't know if "owned" is the right word. But, I don't know if there has been any other president of JUMVEA. Seems like a bit of a conflict of interest to me.

Oh I see, when you said "run by" I thought you meant owned. It's one thing to have your president owning an Export company, and another for them not to have any dispute resolution process for customers of their members or any tracking system.

I know it's also kind of an Asian thing too, I'm very familiar with that style of business.

Thanks. The more I think about JUMVEA, the more it make my blood boil. I was thinking of creating a counter organization with strict rules and have an arm of that organization act as an ombudsman for consumer rights. So, any exporter joining would be subject to arbitration should a client make a reasonable claim. This would really weed out the bad exporters. Only confident and reliable exporters would be interested.
