Default Valuable information about how different Auctions Grade

It has been observed by an experienced JDM importer that USS auction is a bit generous in their grading, what you may consider a 3 would likely get a 3.5 and the same goes for the interior. The *AA auctions tend to be more strict with grading so a graded 2.5 is probably a 3. Interior, same thing.

You tend to get better prices at the *AA auctions as well but for volume USS auction cannot be beat.

How can you tell the difference on the sheet?

Yes, this has always been the case with some auction houses. Just look at the sheet and it's usually pretty clear. I see countless Grade 4's that I would consider a Grade 3.
The one area that I don't like is the "computerized" auction sheets that don't manually draw the damage, say for example Bay-Auc it may say A1 as a scratch but doesn't draw how long or big the scratch is. Well, I disagree and think some of the scratches are an A2 in real life etc..

There are some ways around this by buying from trusted suppliers and dealers but the cost is sometimes higher than auction. However, if the car is high value or you are trying to avoid serious problems, it often pays to go this route.
