Vancouver Transmission in Surrey, BC Review
I am rarely so impressed with a shop's abilities, professionalism and quality but Vancouver Transmission in Surrey, BC is absolutely one of the best shops I have ever visited in the world.
I found them through my friend Rick at Strawberry Hill Auto and was in need of some serious help for my GS450h that had a botched timing chain job from another shop.
GS450h suffers from the factory defective intake CAM gears which cause the timing chains and tensioners to go bad and eventually for the engine to grenade.
Eventually I found a shop willing to do the job (to change both intake cams, all 3 timing chains, all 3 tensioners), but it didn't go well. The other shop returned the car with crazy misfires codes P0025 and P0015 and low oil pressure and the car would stall when switching to hybrid/battery mode but said "everything is fine and the engine runs strong".
Chris's team from Vancouver Transmission teared open the car and were able to find the cause of low oil pressure right away which was due to reusing old seals for the oil pump and missing the o-ring in the pickup tube. Surprisingly they found the timing appeared to be fine but there was one more surprise from my old mechanic. My old mechanic unnecessarily removed the exhaust cam shafts and gears, and reinstalled them improperly (about 5 degrees off) and this nearly caused them to fail, which required them to be replaced. They also found some of the coolant lines were not clamped so even if the old shop had done the job right, at some point the engine would have been starved of coolant, unknown to me.
Throughout the process, the shop was always honest in their billing estimates and what was going on with the car. I won't take my car anywhere else after this experience and of course as you can imagine they are not afraid of JDMs (but they do expect you to help with parts if your car uses Japan only parts), so be sure to have those lined up.
You have no idea how thankful I am that I found them and they were able to save my engine from the 3 deadly flaws that the last mechanic inflicted on it!

I'll grab some pics and video when I go pick the car up tomorrow.

GS450h has been running better than ever, it has never ran this smooth.
