If you have the funds do the MKIV or LS400 upgrade. The LS400 is a slightly better option since it costs less, and weigh less to boot!

Personally I went with the MKIV TT brakes front and back and still believe it was the best upgrade to date. The Supra brakes BOLT on, this is a very easy upgrade. The only 'mod' needed was to cut the stock dust shield lip off to accomidate the larger rotors.

I went with Hawk HPS pads w/ Dixcel slotted rotors with anti corrosion (they never rust!)
Believe be this cars brakes are amazing and do not fade quickly. The other major part of a good braking system are TIRES. Do not cheap out on chinese rubber my friends. Quality tires mean shorter stopping distances.

For wheel requirements, you will need atleast a 17" rim with +35 offset minimum. Anything smaller the brakes will rub (not good!!).

Just wanted to post up my own findings.
Power slot front rotors,Hawk HPS front pads, stainless hoses all round and brake fluid flush(still fitted with rear pads and rotors that came on the car from Japan.
Brakes are now bedded in and have made a noticeable difference to the stopping power of the car and the brake pedal stays firm and has very little travel.
It is not as powerful as a 4 pot Supra conversion but it is certainly the best set up on stock calipers.

I did some more research into the LS400 front brake upgrade and here is what I found:

    - You want the calipers from the 1995-2000 LS400
    - Minimum wheel offset is +35mm
    - Here is an example of the RCA's that are required: http://www.rhdjapan.com/night-pager-...-50246?nflag=1
    - LS400 caliper weight: 9 pounds, 4.08 kilograms
    - MKIV Supra caliper weight: 15 pounds, 6.8 kilograms
    - LS400 rotor diameter: 320mm
    - MKIV Supra rotor diameter: 324mm
    - You will need to trim the dust shield similar to what 4doorvip did with the MKIV setup
    - LS400 calipers are aluminum and will dissipate heat faster than the MKIV Supra brakes as a result (also the reason why they weight much less)

^ great find, that is a HUGE weight savings, I would go LS400 all the way!

Also an important note is that the RCA's will lower the front of the car. Therefore, it is a good idea to be on adjustable coilovers. I'm sure it would be fine if you were on stock suspension as well, but I don't know 100%.

Just want to bump this with a correction, offset doesn't matter when doing the ls400 brake upgrade it's back spacing you need. If you measure your rims while on the car you need 67mm of space from the rotor face to the back side of your rim. Ask me how I found that one out.

I think that would have to do with offset then right? I guess it probably depends on your wheel design too. If the face bends in to give more lip, then it will reduce the clearance between the caliper and the rim.

I guess you just did the LS400 upgrade Steveo? Did you buy RCA's or did you just make your own?

I bought rca's I wanted to get the night pager ones but they have been discontinued for the jzs147. Face design is what gives caliper clearance I didn't realize my rims are low disk and the surface that mounts the rim to the hub is like 20mm max. At least it gives me a good excuse to fix up my volk te37's and get them on the car.

As someone who has done the JZA80 4 piston caliper upgrades on the front. I needed a 1" spacer to clear the calipers with my 18x8.5 +43 Rays.

Ya that's exactly what I need to fit my rims back on a 1" spacer. Do you have picks of your wheels with the spacers on as your fittment would be close to mine.
