Alternator

So, my cappuccino's alternator gave up the ghost today - yay me.

I get the extreme pleasure of sourcing a new one.

Ends up that I may be able to use an Arctic Cat snowmobile (T660 turbo model) alternator - which, lists for $1600 new, but can be had for about $100 used... but we'll see.

I don't know what the GIF was, on firefox, it just showed a white page with the text "Click Image to Zoom". I'm going to guess that it was the snow machine's alternator?

Nice find, let us know what part# it is in case others end up having that issue. Yes I heard some of the snowmobile parts are in common with this vehicle, it's pretty cool/crazy.

Well, it will fit - but it will take it's time getting here... so I'm investigating getting the alternator rebuilt... any bets on what that's gonna cost me?

In any case, the arctic cat model is 3006-261

Soren - I have the parts, service and owners manual in PDF form...

I bought this:

All the specs are the same except for two items:

a) the B lead off the rectifier points up instead of back (but I could take my old rectifier and put it on this if it's really an issue - assuming that it's not the problem already).

b) this one is rated 85 amp rather than 55 amp - perhaps that's one of the reasons its list price is so much higher.

I'll let you know how it goes next week when it arrives and gets installed.

All done, installed and working. Had to get the CAA come give me a boost as the battery had gone a little flat.

Here's pics of the alternators (new and old respectively)... I had already transplanted the pulley from the old to the new for the pics:

Not bad for $50 plus shipping... and 30 extra amps to boot.

I have to say - I would suck as a mechanic... computer geek hands are just not made for this work.
