a few years back i was lusting after a AMG
but then i read a website that showed one guys nightmare with his. he had a bottomless wallet and after that first year he dumped it. it listed all the expenses that he incurred with the unit and most was electrical problems with the engine control. bought for $35K and dumped another $40K into it at the local dealer.
me, i HATE electrical issues so that was the turn off.
the idea he sunk that much into the car ... well ... nightmare properly describes it.

    still love the idea though
    but
    no way ...

C36s and C43(next year) are an option for someone with smaller wallets.

    E50's too if you're into 5.0L

I've been looking into the C36's and E50's for a little while. From what I understand though, the C36's were limited production so I could imagine parts being fairly expensive and difficult to acquire.

I would be interested to hear from someone who owns an AMG from Japan, about the reliability of the cars.

I'd bet that the only parts that will be unique are the engine internals and the MAF. Other parts will be the same as the equivalent model Mercedes. The problem I have with Mercedes is that it's harder to find info on them than for BMW/Alpina models.

He's right. Most will have to be brought over from Germany if you want OEM engine parts. In US and Canada there wasn't a large number brought over.

Rest is mostly interchangeable with C-series.

A white one went through yesterday, I'm kicking myself for not even bidding.
