Finally replaced the shift boot today. Since I was already in there, I applied leather cleaner/conditioner to the seats. It doesn't take that long to do, but for some reason I always hate doing it.
Old
New
Looks much better
Wow, you've had this car for a long time, good work at staying at it....
Beautiful BMW! Makes me miss my Euro days.
1999 Toyota Altezza RS200 Z
1996 Toyota Tacoma, 2wd, 5 speed, 4cyl
Nice work with the shift boot and it's very refreshing to see long term owners and threads like this.
Love the wood accents around the shifter and dash.
Might as well update this thread too!!!
Working on the front end. New tie rods and control arms in. I still need to put the bushings on the end of the control arms, but it sounds like you need to do this and then get it back on the ground in relatively short order, so haven't completed. The tool that I had to buy for these bushings was $$$! But I can use it for my car and the wife's. Sway bar is back in with new bushings, but I'm waiting to put the end links back on once I get the control arm done. So basically, all new front end on the car
Once I'm done with the work, I'll take it to a shop for an alignment, and I'm going to have them install new brakes lines as well. While doing this work on the front, I noticed the front lines have a few cracks, so might as well replace all lines at once.
Very nice and safe set of jacks you have there Ryan and very nice suspension work! These tools are always worth their money vs the time and hassle of going to the dealership IMHO.
Thanks! I've had the Quickjack setup for about a year now. When I first saw these jacks I sort of thought they were useless because you can only access the front or the rear of the car. However, most of the time that's what you need to access anyway. The more I thought about it the more I thought it was a good idea. I never felt comfortable with jack stands, and a two post lift isn't an option for me. Safety being paramount, I decided I would watch them at Costco and get them the next time they were on sale. I think it was only about a month later and they were on sale
Only downside is it's not quite long enough to lift the Aristo, so I'll pick up the frame extensions. If this COVID stuff would go away it would make it a lot easier to get since they don't seem to be available in Canada. I have all the documentation to cross to the US, I just haven't done it in two years now and I haven't fully looked into what info I need to have with me when travelling.
Front suspension is all back together than the car is back on the ground. Going to let it sit for a bit to let the suspension settle out and the lube placed for the control arm bushing install to dry. Then back up in the air again for an engine oil change and diff and transmission oil drain and fill. I'll take a couple of pics of the front end when I've got it lifted again.
