    Default Importing To Ethiopia

Hey there, I'm an importer here based out of calgary. Im working with a non-profit organization in ethiopia, and am planning to help them get some trucks imported from Japan. Anyone know an importer that can assist with this?

We have sent vehicles to that part of the world before, and I was in Ethiopia last year.

    Okay,

We're looking to get a hilux/pajero in there ASAP for an organisation called hopEthiopia based out of Calgary here. they work in Harbuu Chululee which is about 1.5 hrs SW of addis ababa. What is the taxation like there for brining in cars? We may bring one in thru hopEthiopia, but also considering bringing one in for a local entrepreneur separate from the organisation as a part of a microfinance project..

    thanks!

B-Pro and I spoke today finally. Great guy, and very 'with it' as far as imports are concerned. He told me the regulations, so perhaps he can post them.

Sorry for the delay, in ethiopia, here are the requirments:
-must be converted to LHD. (They get most of their vehicles imported from either Japan or Dubai)
-Minimal modifications to the vehicle other than the conversion from right-hand-drive of course.
-If imported for personal use, there is substantial taxation on the vehicles, often 200-300%!!
-If imported for an NGO organization operating in the country, they are exempt from the heavy taxation, however, the organization cannot sell the vehicle after importing it...must use it for as long as needed or Drive it into the ground. It is 'remitted' to the government if no longer needed, private sale on a NGO vehicle is prohibitted

Anyhow, we got the go ahead from HopEthiopia(www.hopethiopia.com), and the fundraising is underway! if anyone is interested, feel free to PM me, it's fully tax receiptable!

    cheers.
