    Default Forester Maintenance

    Hi guys, lets start a thread for the Maintenance, since this is new to me so i would like to gather more info in regards to maintaining our EJ20G engines running smooth.

    While I am at Vancouver picking up the Forester, I would like to do an oil change, therefore i would like to know:

    - type of oil best use for the Forester.
    - Oil filter

    If it is an ej20g under the hood then you could most likely run the same oil and filter that the WRX guys like to run.
    I use a NAPA gold 1334 filter, and Rotella T6 5w40 oil.

    Any good filter (not FRAM) and any reputable synthetic oil will do the trick.

    I use subaru blue filters and rotella t6 every time, have had zero issues and oil is still very clear when I change it.

    Gonna do tranny/diff fluid too?

    [QUOTE- type of oil best use for the Forester.
    - Oil filter[/QUOTE]

    Based on the OEM Japanese Subaru Maintenance Note book, the type of oil they reccomend is;
    Subaru Motor oil, 4WD, 10W-30 API SF grade
    Subaru motor oil, SG, 10W-30 API SG grade
    Subaru motor oil, SH, 10W-30 API SH grade
    But probably anything that others have reccomended is fine.

    The book says oil and filter change intervals as:
    Under normal conditons, every 10,000km, or 6 months
    Under severe conditons, every 5,000km, or 3 months

    Oil filter number was not in the book, but a quick search on the Japanese websites pulled up Subaru OEM part no. 15208AA080
    this crosses over to WIX part no. 57712.
    Some say you can also use Subaru OEM part no. 15208AA024, 15208AA100

    Other OEM numbers I found are;
    Air Filter: Subaru OEM Part No. 16546AA020, 16546AA080
    Fuel Filter: Subaru OEM Part No. 42072PA010
    Spark Plugs: Subaru OEM Part No. 22401AA400
    PCV Valve: Subaru OEM Part No. 11810AA000

    Hope this helps!

    No one has said anything about running 10W-30 in their forester yet... Isn't the Rotella 0-40, that's quite a way off from the manual spec.

    That's the stuff. Technically designed for heavy duty turbo diesels, so you know its good for high power engines. Tons of guys use it for their subies

    Just changed the oil in my forester which I picked up today .

    Subaru filter worked/fit perfectly, only difference with the foz was the oil capacity. My WRX has oil left over from a 5L jug of rotella; The forester drank it all and then some, so roughly 5.1L I'd say?
