Default 93 buick new o2 sensor made things worse?

Hey I am driving my winter beater which is a 93 Buick century custom 3.3L and was getting a engine light, I found DTC - 44 Left bank O2 sensor error (lean condition indicated). I replaced the o2 sensor and reset the ecu or ecm or what ever the cars computer is called in this model. I started the car and it idles fine just under load it hesitates and sputters and runs horrible. So i took the new sensor out and put the original back in, Reset the computer again and it was doing this now too (but it wasnt before i took it out). I have no idea what is going on now nothing else has been touched or changed in about a year but the o2 sensor, now i have this problem that doesnt make sense to me. Any suggestions appreciated!!!!! thanks

Could there be more than one O2 sensor and are you sure you changed the right one?
