Talking Importing to Guyana, South America

    Hi Everyone,

I was wondering how hard it would be to import to my native country, Guyana in South America (close to Brazil and Venezuela).

From what i know we can usually import anything and only pay the duties/taxes when the vehicle is "cleared" into the country.

Would anyone have a little bit more information. I will be visiting maybe 2-3 times a year and i am looking to bite the bullet and have the car shipped there. Insurance will be close to nothing compared to Canada.

If there is anyone that can maybe provide a little insite that would be great!.

P.S. i will be visiting Guyana in November and i will also find out a bit more there.

My list so far is 2 cars:

2000 Honda civic Hatchback Type R
    2000 Toyota Chaser Tourer V

To maintain these cars there would be far cheaper since there is no winter, just rain and sunshine and no temps below 20 degrees!!!

I'm guessing no one has replied because they don't know, but I'm sure many Exporters have sent cars to your country.

I'd love to see some pictures of Guyana when you go and of course whatever car you get

If it were me I'd get a car that is a bit newer that I'd have to wait for a long time in Canada unless of course Civic Type R and JZX100 V are what you've been waiting for.

It sounds like the process would be easy but with high taxation:
As long as the engine size is below 1500 CC, the import duty is 45 percent, excise tax is 10 percent and VAT is 16 percent. If the engine is above 1500 CC, the import duty is 45 percent, the excise tax is 30 percent and VAT is 16 percent.

After reading that I think we have it pretty good in Canada aside from pseudo-bans with insurance issues and Quebec.

I have exported to Guyana this year. It was a Rosa bus for a church group. I am not familiar with the duties, but know that Guyana is a country that imports most of their cars from Japan. I had tried to market my company there with little success because most people want to buy from stock. The import dealers there are ruthless and I have heard they don't care as much about the condition of the car. That is just what I heard.
