The more research I do the cheapest option is probably the 7MGTE wngine

Ya the 7M-GTE engines will for sure cost less then a 1JZ although 1JZ's aren't much more and are a fair improvement in every way.

How much am I looking at spending for a complete drivetrain swap for the 1JZ and the R154? Under the assumption I won't be able to do this myself, considering I don't have much knowledge of that amount of mechanical work :P

I have no idea how much labour will cost but the 1JZ + tranny would be around $2000 I think. Then you just gotta figure out which 1JZ, the twin or newer single vvti engine.

Hmmm...I think if you find that for $2000 that would be a good deal. On a quick search 1JZ's (non-VVTi) range on ebay from $1200 to $2500. A R154 with a 7M bellhousing will probably be about 500-600. JZ bellhousing is another 300-400....it will get expensive very fast.

I just phoned a local moterspots shop locally and they ballpark quoted me around 4,500 to 5,500 for the complete drivetrain swap labour included, for the 1j TT setup
