    Safety and emissions requirements have forced these cars to become what they are. It isn't about moving backwards and not being able to build cars faster than what they were able to 20 years ago, of course they can. The problem is it just isn't that simple anymore

    Im not arguing that they cant or dont know how to build fast cars anymore, I know they can, and yes im sure saftey and emmisions are getting quite strict but honestly thats no excuse. Every manufacturer faces the same restrictions yet most manufacturers have moved on with the times and redeveloped engines for better performance to counter balance the extra weight added due to these restrictions. Subaru has not done this, they are still using a variation of the ej207 which is basically an upgraded 20k which is basically a ej20g. An engine designed in the early 90's. Imo theres no excuse for this,they need to get back to the drawing board and give use something completely new and exciting. Hint* maybe a ej207 powered brz??
