    Default 25 year law response

question from my brain I cannot find online goes like this. If the car is built in generation form like the Volkswagen Golf. It goes from the late 1980s to early 1990s. Was 25 year law made for the car that is 25 years old or the car of the 25 year generation. So the 1991 with the same engine and body specifics falls into the 25 year law, no? Know how to reply?

As far as I understand the U.S laws, they are the same as the Canadian (with an additional 10 years.) So to answer your question, the generation of the car is NOT taken into consideration when importing a vehicle. Instead the Month and Year the actual car you are importing ARE used to determine if it is eligible.
Eg: a Car built in April 1989 can be imported into the States

It seems like this link has a lot of good info:

Prose, from my understanding, you got it correct. This is to say, 25 year old or older vehicles that have not otherwise been tested and modified for compliance. There are some registered importers who can take a newer than 25-year old car and modify it to comply with NHTSA. But the cost to do this can be prohibitive for regular cars. Some people have gotten this done with Skylines, or other sports cars or special purpose vehicles.

It is 25 years to the month of make. Model production has nothing to do with it.

You want a skyline built in 5 of 1991 then it would need to be 25 years to the month.

It seems on most kei vehicles the month of build is always january from my experience as the title is slightly diffeent than the regular cars. Makes it a bit asier to import. but its good to double check with your exporter first.
