2025 is a great Yen time to buy a JDM!

2025 is a great Yen time to buy a JDM!

Post by jdmvip »

When looking at most major currencies, including the USD and CAD, they have gained so much on the JPY since about 2022 but it's even better than it was back then. I think it's a great time to buy a JDM and maybe one of the best opportunities in a long time.

I am wondering to all of our members, what cars are you interested in right now?

For myself I've been considering an LS460 and have been debating on LS460 vs LS600. The LS600 really doesn't cost much more but the real issues come down to maintenance issues such as the very expensive to replace hybrid battery, whose cells I believe are exclusive to the LS600, plus there is the additional weight. But I do love the idea of the extra HP, AWD and possible fuel savings.

Another thing the older me has pondered after spending so much in Asia is getting an Alphard or Vellfire in VIP mode of course because they are so comfortable and useful.

Definitely, are you planning on getting a new JDM? When I started this site years ago, the Yen was not at all attractive, so the low yen is a win-win for companies in Japan and for those looking to purchase from Japan.

JPY conversion levels are at all time highs and with Japan raising it's interest rates and printing more money, this could be a perfect storm for even cheaper JDMs where we can let the Yen work for us.

To top it off there are more economic issues for Japan because of the recent tensions: https://www.scmp.com/economy/china-econ ... -continues

Politics aside, if the trend continues with less Chinese tourists and I've also heard students and investors are fleeing Japan/selling their properties, this is going to have an impact on the Yen and also probably put more cars on the market/through auction for us members!

I predict 2026 will bring more opportunities than ever to get some great cars at better prices because of the exchange. One issue though is that if the USD starts to tank due to dedollarization, you'll want to use another currency for your purchase.

What do you guys think?

Things are quite good still at 158.86 JPY to 1 USD. Looking at the chart, if there is no intervention, I think it may keep going higher!

This is making great buys for the JDMs these day and of course the CAD is not doing bad these days either.

The Yen keeps sliding and would probably go much lower if not for the BoJ

What would be really exciting is if they stop intervening so much, or not at all. I could easily see it going to 200s like in the 80s or even 300s like it was in the 70s, that would be an incredible opportunity.

The question is only when does the BoJ let things take their natural course?
